Lukashenko highlights importance of tree planting effort

MINSK, 22 April (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko has set tasks in the field of environmental protection as he appointed Sergei Maslyak Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, BelTA has learned.
"Belarus has been given this land by God. We need to preserve it. I am a very demanding person. I was born in the countryside. I'm used to respecting animals and plants. We need more of everything. Please, step up tree planting effort. As I say, trees must planted along roads, all kinds of places. A tree can grow everywhere. In 80 years, it will be good timber that our children will be able to use," the head of state said.
Aleksandr Lukashenko highlighted the importance of afforestation for the environment. "Wood means good air for people to breathe. This is important. Forests is the second biggest, after swamps, generator of oxygen on our planet. Therefore, trees should be planted everywhere wherever they can grow,” the president instructed. "There is a lot of work in this regard, and it has been neglected to some extent."
