Belarus-Russia Union State MPs to discuss new post-Chernobyl recovery program

MOSCOW, 17 April (BelTA) – The Commission on Natural Resources, Ecology and Environmental Protection of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Belarus-Russia Union State will convene at the All-Russia Center for Emergency and Radiation Medicine of the Emergencies Ministry of Russia in St. Petersburg on 19 April, BelTA learned from the press service of the Parliamentary Assembly.


“The MPs will review progress to implement the Union State's project “Providing comprehensive medical care to certain population groups of Belarus and Russia affected by the Chernobyl radiation” in 2022 and the first quarter of 2023. They will also take stock of the results of the Union State program to protect people and rehabilitate territories affected by the Chernobyl disaster, and will review efforts to implement the outcomes of the program,” the press service noted.


In addition to that, the MPs will discuss the status of the proposal to embark on another joint project to mitigate the aftermath of the Chernobyl accident.


Invitations to take part in the event were sent to representatives of the Union State Standing Committee, ministries and government agencies of Belarus and Russia, scientific and educational institutions, as well as the St. Petersburg municipal government.
