Ministry

An environmental protection system has been in place in the country since 1960 since the Nature Protection Committee of the Belarusian Soviet Socialist Republic (BSSR) was established.

In 1990 in line with the BSSR law “Amendments to the BSSR Council of Ministers Law” of July 16, 1990 the Nature Protection Committee was renamed into the State Ecology Committee of the Republic of Belarus. In 1994 in line with the Council of Ministers’ resolution No 145 “Perfection of the structure of state administration bodies of the Republic of Belarus and reduction of office expenses” of March 14, 1994 the State Ecology Committee of the Republic of Belarus was changed into the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Ministry of the Republic of Belarus.

The Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Ministry of the Republic of Belarus is a national state administration body in charge of exploitation of natural resources and environmental protection, pursuing the state ecology policy.
