Andrei Khudyk meets with French Ambassador Didier Canesse

20.07.2018
Belarus’ Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Minister Andrei Khudyk met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of France to Belarus Didier Canesse on 19 July.

Belarus and France have experience of mutually beneficial cooperation in environmental protection, including in hazardous waste treatment, Andrei Khudyk noted.

The bilateral cooperation in environmental conservation received a new impetus as the Belarusian Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection and the French Ministry of the Environment, Energy and the Sea signed a cooperation agreement in environmental protection and sustainable development in 2016. Andrei Khudyk noted the positive role of the joint interdepartmental working group in promoting cooperation in the environmental field.

“The number of new technologies, advanced manufacturing facilities has been increasing in Belarus, which leads to the production of additional waste. France is a recognized leader in waste management and we should look up to you in this area. We would like to study your experience and practices to be able to dispose of and neutralize hazardous waste on our own in the future,” the Belarusian minister noted.

The parties also discussed the cooperation between the weather services of the two countries.

Andrei Khudyk invited Ambassador Didier Canesse to study Belarus’ experience in regulation and development of the system of protected natural areas, to visit Belovezhskaya Pushcha, the country’s recognized tourist brand, home to unique monuments of nature, and also Berezinsky Biosphere Reserve, which is also a valuable natural complex internationally known as the model of pristine nature and clean air.

In conclusion the parties expressed the belief that the meeting would become another step towards strengthening the Belarusian-French cooperation in environmental protection.
