Belarus attends meeting of Espoo Convention working group

MINSK, 22 December (BelTA) – A Belarusian delegation took part in the 11th meeting of the working group of the Convention on Environmental Impact Assessment in a Transboundary Context, BelTA learned from the press service of the Ministry of Natural Resources.


The delegation from Belarus included representatives of the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Ministry and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who represented the interests of the country on the agenda of the meeting.


The Espoo Convention working group is composed of representatives of all states parties to the international treaty. They meet once a year at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, Switzerland to discuss how best to achieve the aims and objectives of the international treaty.


The meeting reviewed the status of ratification of the first and second amendments and the Protocol on Strategic Environmental Assessment to the Espoo Convention; ways of promoting the practical application of the international treaty, including subregional cooperation and capacity-building, exchange of of good practices; information coverage of activities during the inter-sessional period; preparations for the next session of the the Parties to the Espoo Convention, scheduled for December 2023, etc.
