Lukashenko: Belarusian People’s Congress marks new stage in country's political life

24.04.2024
MINSK, 24 April (BelTA) – Today marks a new stage in the country's political life, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he addressed the 7th Belarusian People's Congress in Minsk on 24 April, BelTA has learned.

"This is a truly historic day in Belarus. Those who do not understand this will come to understand it in time. For the first time, the Belarusian People's Congress has convened in a constitutional status. For the first time, the president's address, which the head of state should deliver to the people and the Parliament once a year according to the Constitution, will be announced during the national forum, and this will become an annual tradition," the president said.

The president said that in his speech he will deliberately leave out the issues related to the economy since all these topics were analyzed in detail at recent meetings, with the relevant instructions being given.

"Today's event actually divides the history of the country's political life into before and after. This is an evolutionary movement and development," the head of state said. “The moment is historical not only because of the new status, new functions, and new powers of delegates. What matters is not what but how we do it, how we improve the model of the political system. Without breaking our way of life, without abandoning traditions but in an evolutionary fashion, in a balanced Belarusian way, without abrupt movements. Based on the opinion of the majority."
