The round table "Ecotourism development to promote green transition to inclusive and sustainable growth" has been held.

On March 15, 2021, within the framework of the Regional Forum on Sustainable Development for the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) region countries a round table “Ecotourism development to promote green transition to inclusive and sustainable growth” was held. 

The theme of the meeting is consistent with the theme of the 69th session of the UNECE “Promoting circular economy and sustainable use of natural resources", which will be held on April 20-21, 2021. Dmitry Maryasin, Deputy Executive Secretary of the UNECE, delivered a speech at the opening ceremony of the round table. 

During the meeting, the head of the General Directorate of Environmental Policy, International Cooperation and Science of the Ministry of Natural Resources of Belarus, Tatsiana Kananchuk, made an intervention and informed about the work being carried out in Belarus with regard to the development of the circular economy and its separate elements in connection with the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. Special attention was paid to the results of the implementation of the UNIDO Concept of Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production (RECP) at belarusian enterprises. 

"Circular business projects have been created and are successfully functioning. These are plants for the production of office paper from waste paper in Borisov, for the processing of waste oils in Krupsky district, for the processing of wood waste into biofuels in Brest, biogas energy complexes based on the processing of agricultural waste in a number of agricultural organizations; implemented innovative projects for the introduction of low-waste technologies at industrial and metallurgical enterprises. The sharing economy is actively developing. In the transport sector, these are services for short-term rental of cars, bicycles and scooters. Housing sharing is developing not only in the consumer segment, but also in the rental of office space," said Ms Tatsiana Kananchuk. 

Possible areas of technical assistance from the UNECE to promote the circular economy in Belarus were also presented, including the development of a draft of the National Strategy for the Circular Economy until 2035, the preparation of a legislative framework and the implementation of pilot projects at Belarusian enterprises to promote environmental design and business models for production.
