Uniqueness: The Nature Reserve is part of the West Polesie UNESCO Transboundary Biosphere Reserve (Belarus - Poland - Ukraine). The area of the Belarusian portion of the Reserve is 48,024 ha. As regards plains, this is the only three-party (created with the participation of three countries) protected area. The Nature Reserve has the status of a globally Important Bird Area as a habitat of a large number of wetland bird species.

The Nature Reserve lies in the Zapadnyj Bug River valley, in the western part of Belarusian Polesje. Within the boundaries of the territory, lightly undulating moraine plain and rolling-to-flat glacial plain, floodplain and above-floodplain terraces, as well as typical aquatic landscapes are distinguished. Rare for the region landscape sites, diverse geomorphological objects, dunes, complexes of raised and transitional bogs, lakes, small and large watercourses are found in the area. Forests occupy 62 per cent of the territory, marshes and wetlands take 6.4 per cent, and largely undisturbed natural areas make in total 72 per cent.

The bird fauna of Pribuzhskoe Polesie amounts to 236 bird species, which makes 75 per cent of the species composition of the country’s and about 45 per cent of the European avifauna. All seven species of Belarusian reptiles and all 13 species of Belarusian amphibians have been recorded here. The area is home to a productive population of swamp turtles and is a nesting area for Green Woodpecker. Osmunda regalis, also known as the royal fern, grows only here.
