Uniqueness: The Nature Reserve is Europe’s largest complex of raised, lowland, and transitional swamps that have been preserved in their pristine state to this day. Across the swamp complex there are over 20 lakes and scattered sand dunes covered with coniferous and deciduous forests.

The Nature Reserve is a wetland of international importance (Ramsar site), and it is also part of the transboundary Olmany – Perebrody Mires Ramsar site; it has the status of a globally Important Bird Area.
