Uniqueness: One of the most environmentally pristine places in Belarus. Designated a globally Important Plant Area.
In the territory of the Nature Reserve there are:

  • the lowest place in Belarus - 80.3 m (the edge of the Neman River near the village of Privalka);
  • a very rare bird is found - Red Kite (only a few breeding sites are known in the country);
  • Augustow Canal - a unique waterway, a cultural and historical monument of the 19th century.

The landscapes are very picturesque: hills, basins in the form of saucers and thermokarst depressions, occupied by small raised bogs and transitional mires; deeply incised river valleys; exceptionally beautiful spring complexes in the valleys of small rivers, streams and lakes.
Forest communities cover about 94 per cent of the Nature Reserve’s area. One can see oaks, lindens and pines over 300 years old here.

Ecotourism services: Augustow Canal Tourism and Recreation Park covering over 5,000 ha was created. Trips to the Canal and the territory of the Nature Reserve, motor boat outings, rowing boat, power boat and yacht rides; equipped recreation areas.

Ecological routes: Walking and bicycle tourist routes. Over 10 water routes have been designed, and one of the longest is the transboundary Augustow Canal - Belovezhskaya Pushcha water and bike route (272.4 km).

Places of interest: Within the Nature Reserve and in its neighbourhood there are the 1863 Rebels Grave on Fox Mountain (Kadysh village), fortifications of the Molotov Line (Sonichi village), V. Usov Museum and the monument to Soviet border guards (Golovenchicy village).
